µPD720150 USB 2.0 controller with integrated host and peripheral functions

Universal 16-bit CPU interface and low power technology facilitate versatile use:
Milton Keynes, UK – NEC Electronics’ µPD720150 integrated USB 2.0 controller, which immediately broadens the Gleichmann Sunrise product portfolio, enables data transfers at rates up to 480 megabits per second.

The newest member of the ECOUSB™ series combines on a single chip functions that formerly required separate USB host and USB peripheral controller ICs. By means of appropriate register settings, the two USB ports can be operated in four different configurations: one host port, two host ports, one peripheral port or one host port and one peripheral port, whereby the number of ports can be increased by connecting an external hub from NEC Electronics.

Further features of the µPD720150 are the many, hardware-implemented, basic USB functions, which significantly reduce the additional software effort. For example, the µPD720150 enables automatic audio and video data transfers.

NEC µPD720150

Thanks to a 16-bit CPU interface with selectable timing control modes, the µPD720150 allows direct connection to a wide variety of popular embedded CPUs, thus saving space and reducing costs. Low power technology, developed by NEC Electronics specifically for the ECOUSB™ series of USB products, also guarantees a high flexibility of use. For example, by completely stopping the clock when USB functions are not in use. Furthermore, by means of an integrated voltage regulator, the internal supply voltage can be reduced from 3.3 V to 1.5 V.

The μPD720150 is available now in sample quantities. Volume production is planned for September 2008.
